The prestigious Vall d’Hebron Hospital is conducting trials with Immunocal as a treatment for chronic fatigue.
This randomised, double-blind clinical trial aims to demonstrate how Immunocal can help patients with chronic fatigue syndrome improve their quality of life, sleep and fatigue, thanks to its antioxidant, immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties.

Immunotec, a Canadian-based laboratory specialising in a whey protein dietary supplement rich in cysteine, has announced a double-blind clinical trial in Spain led by Dr José Alegre, a specialist in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome and head of the treatment unit for this condition at Vall d’Hebron Hospital. This trial is assessing the effectiveness of naturally increasing glutathione (GSH) – a tripeptide composed of the amino acids glutamic acid, cysteine and glycine – in reducing the symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome and other signs associated with this ‘silent’ disease. The causes of this condition are currently unknown; it is estimated that the number of people affected by chronic fatigue syndrome in Spain stands at almost 2 million patients.
Chronic fatigue, also known as chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), is a complex and debilitating condition characterised by extreme and persistent tiredness that does not improve with rest and may worsen with physical or mental activity. In addition to fatigue, it causes many other symptoms, such as muscle and joint pain, headaches, cognitive difficulties, sleep problems and general malaise, amongst others.
Although the causes of this disease are not known, it is believed that a combination of genetic, biological, environmental and psychological factors may contribute to its development. These possible causes range from viral or bacterial infections to immune system dysfunction and hormonal changes.
The trial is focused on demonstrating the efficacy of Immunocal, one of Immunotec’s food supplements, to offer hope to millions of people worldwide who suffer from this disease.
Immunocal is a specially formulated and patented, non-denatured whey protein isolate enriched with bound cysteine, which strengthens the immune system and improves health. It achieves this by raising glutathione levels in the body, providing the essential amino acids required by cells and tissues, and supporting their construction and repair, as well as the production of antibodies. This results in a stronger immune system, detoxifying the body whilst building antibodies and protecting it against oxidative stress.
Within the Immunocal range, there are two other revolutionary products that act as glutathione precursors, designed to promote healthy ageing and improve physical well-being:
– For healthy ageing, Immunocal Platinum, which, in addition to the benefits of Immunocal, controls inflammation, strengthens bones and prevents calcium loss, supports healthy kidney function and reduces acidity levels in the body.
– For athletes, Immunocal Sport, which, alongside the benefits of Immunocal, reduces muscle pain, speeds up recovery following physical activity or injury, maximises intensity, muscle strength and endurance, and increases muscle mass.
Immunocal has the highest biological value of any edible protein; it is completely natural and clinically proven.
Immunotec is conducting this clinical trial to seek to improve the quality of life of those suffering from this condition.
